The name of this sunny and sprawling 200-seater eatery raises little doubt about its culinary influences. Drawing from his Swiss roots, the hotel’s kitchen manager has designed a menu based around this land-locked country’s hearty fare.  Although my heart always sinks when I’m told I’m going to be reviewing a buffet joint, the food on display here was fresh and appetizing, and the service was helpful and cheery, if a touch inattentive. The Luzerne “Chuggeli” Pastetli, which resembles a giant vol-au-vent, is brimming with a creamy béchamel based filling made from diced veal, chicken, mushrooms and raisins, mmm. A lighter, but equally rich dish, is made from good, fatty, braised beef brisket, enlivened by the accompanying punchy mustard and horseradish sauce. Make-your-own sandwiches is available all day, with the fillings table showcasing an array of Swiss breads and cheeses, but the range expands significantly in the evening. Desserts are innovative and varied, including a surprisingly good creamy confection containing Toblerone, and a Zuger Kirsch Torte – layers of soft hazelnut sponge soaked in kirsch and filled with blackcurrant mousse – delicious.
