Hanabi, situated in the chic Odean towers gets by with a simple yet contemporary décor. Though small in seating capacity, the buffet ($33) menu lists over 100 Japanese dishes that come at a snap of the finger, from your standard sashimi platter, fresh crispy breaded tempura, gooey sweet yakitori, savoury curry udon, to the fabled chawanmushi, Hanabi makes sure your gut is kimochi-ly satisfied. Good food, Japanese beer and conscientious service makes a great dining experience. There are few frills dining at such restaurants and prices are comfortably within everyone’s budget. Bring it on!

the foods r good, but the stuff service is low standard…i will not go again
i was given a coupon for 1 to 1 bento set by a friend. when i went to the outlet in katong mall on saturday 7th june at about 6+ pm, i was told that that the coupon can only be used on weekdays for lunch. i was very upset as this was not stated in the coupon.
I applied for their “Friend of Hanabi’s” card in Jul ‘08 at their Katong Mall Branch and as I
did not have the chance to return to the restaurant following that, I asked a friend who was dining there to help pick up the card (that was in september). He was told that they would mail it directly to me instead. Hence I waited and very soon I forgot all about it only to chance upon the receipt recently in DECEMBER and I decided to just give the restaurant a call. The manager at Katong Mall told me that due to some screw-ups the card will only be ready- hopefully, she added – to collect in about a week’s time!!! I told her that I would prefer that they mail the card to me instead which she then
replied that they do not provide that service!! Firstly, why do I have to wait for freaking HALF a year to find out that my SUPPOSEDLY VIP card is still not ready ONLY upon my enquiry?? Shouldn’t they have at least taken the initiative to call their customer? Secondly, in their application form, they provided the options of either picking up the card from their outlets or via mail. So when I asked why did they provide the mail option in their form if they are not going to do it, she said this “erm, maybe now they’ve changed the policy….”!!! I was really really pissed by then. Poor service through and through. To think that she did not for once apologise, only attributing the whole incident to the screw-ups! What is the point of asking customer to sign up for loyalty card only to treat them shabbily? If dining at such a place is going to give me so much pain than pleasure, loyalty card or not, I will not return to this place. Oh by the way, did I mention that I paid $50 for the card? Is it really an era of Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) that we are in?
