This is a real no-frills, no-fuss establishment, where eating with your hands is to be encouraged. I went for the iconic dish of cold crab – the white meat sweet and delicate flavours, and the brown meat strong and meaty. On the other end of the taste spectrum was the robustly-flavoured duck, deep fried until crispy on the outside, and blushing pink and juicy within. Other good dishes included the hae cho (prawn rolls), Foochow fish ball soup and Foochow fried noodles. But a meal here is not complete without its delectable and indulgent rendition of orh nee (yam paste with pumpkin). The decor is unabashedly functional but, frankly, who cares when the food is this good?
