Bright, casual and quiet, The Square at Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore is a good place to head for lunch if you just want some peace and quiet – its light and elegant sunlit dining room is the perfect place to enjoy good food and pleasant service with a book or an old friend. The friendly staff are unobtrusive and guests are left very much on their own – no pushy table turning here, thank goodness.. On the international spread one finds a good, fresh looking cold appetizer section as well as some good hot seafood dishes: I went for the signature dish of bouchot mussels cooked in white wine sauce — delicious, small and sweet, and perfectly paired with the astringent white wine. A wide range of fresh pasta was available, all prepared a la minute by chefs at the live station, but I decided to go for the a few slices each of the roast duck and chicken, expertly prepared by the local chefs – crispy skinned and moist inside – and carved when you want it. Delicious.WINE: An extensive selection of New and Old World wines are offered by the bottle. Those drinking alone like me, however, confoundingly find their choices limited to the two rather drab house pours.
