Having gone through extensive refurbishment in the recent years, this twenty-year-old restaurant has cast off the shackles of its old, shabby interior and is now quite grand. That said, loyal customers will still feel right at home: the service staff who remember regulars by name haven’t gone, the service itself remains is truly impeccable and the food, if anything, has got better – the menu offers a wide selection of seafood ranging from a rich, satisfying shark’s bone soup to the simple, clean dish of steamed live soon hock, or marbled goby. I was in the mood for some meat, however, and I went for the Champagne Pork Rib – sticky, well-marinated pork ribs are served crackling hot and with a miniature flute of champagne, to be poured over the dish (don’t be silly) or sipped on(that’s more like it). And I couldn’t resist some fatty, crispy, shredded eel: well seasoned and sweetened with lovely fragrant honey. For a sweet, light ending, I went for the luxurious taro and pumpkin cream – a classic.
