A seafood restaurant tucked away in a quiet residential estate, Blue Lobster is quite a charmer. The exterior is unassuming, but inside it is cosy and intimate with chiffon drapes separating the tables, turning them into little booths. The service is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is contemporary French with Mediterranean influences. An appetizer of pan-seared foie gras and a dish of lobster spaghetti aglio e olio — whilst generously portioned, were disappointing: undercooked, flabby foie, overcooked, soggy pasta and chewy, dry lobster. The deep-fried soft-shell crab got us back on track – that irresistible crunchy-crispy-soft texture achieved perfectly, with a lovely fresh chilli and lemon dressing. Crab appeared again as crab cakes served with a tangy relish, and though it lacked something of the finesse of the soft-shelled crab dish, it was no less welcome for it. The desserts, however, were where this chef truly shone. A white chocolate mousse was light, clean and airy, while the panna cotta was a cracking specimen - set with just enough gelatine to hold it upright.
